Extended Setup 2 - 10/26/06

Drawing from last week's Drawing 1 class. Another extended setup like this, but a much more subtle drawing in character, I think. I'm really feeling like I'm getting a better understanding of abstraction from this series of drawings—mostly because it involves breaking the ground plane to get a kind of object-oriented depth, even though what those objects themselves are isn't entirely clear. I think this kind of training will deeply affect my painting for the better—never have I had the kind of understanding of space like what I'm gaining now. By getting a better understanding of light and depth, I'm getting, I think, a little closer to that concept of "plasticity" that Mark Rothko talked about. But I'm just starting out, too—we'll see where this goes. Enjoy.

Edit: avisualplanet.com has updated its library with a series of new images I've done for them based off of my many painted works and drawings. Take a look at the images—thanks to the people over at AVP!
