washing my face

sometimes
late at night
when i've been staring at myself in the mirror for a long time
and popping zits

and when i go to wash my face i let the steam coagulate;
the water feels wonderful on
my face.

so wonderful, that i'll look back up in the mirror
watch the drips on my lips,
bend down again in the sink and lap the water
up
in great mouthfulls
from two cupped hands.
so that i carry it with me
sloshing in my tummy
as i go to sleep
